The Comeback You Asked For: Brewed Ginger Beer is Back!

In 2025, we made the tough call to discontinue our Barker’s Brewed Ginger Beer Soda Syrup. We never expected quite how loudly you’d ask for it back!

The passionate messages quickly started rolling in…

“You see, many syrups claim to be ginger. But your syrup was ginger… Others merely tingle the tongue. Yours commanded respect.”

With cries from kitchens across Aotearoa, it was clear you weren’t ready to say goodbye to our Brewed Ginger Beer.

So…

Ginger Beer is back, baby!

Barker’s Brewed Ginger Beer now joins our Premium Syrup range - still as you remember it, full of ginger-y goodness and traditionally batch brewed in Geraldine.

Each 710ml bottle makes 25 drinks; plenty for the whole whānau. Pour over ice, add fizzy water, and garnish with lime and mint if you’re feeling fancy. Mix it your way!

To make everyone’s favourite Ginger Beer Syrup, we batch brew root ginger until the spicy flavour has fully developed, thenstop it before it turns alcoholic, keeping it family-friendly, refreshing and full of gingery bite.

What’s changed?

There are just a couple of small but necessary changes.

The label has had a little glow-up, bringing it in line with the rest of the Barker’s Fruit Syrups range. The price is a little higher too, and we know that’s never the news anyone hopes for. Like many producers, we’ve experienced rising costs across ingredients, production and logistics, which has meant we’ve had to adjust our pricing to continue to deliver the same high-quality product that you expect from us.

We have also adjusted the recipe just a tad, meaning we can now declare that the Barker’s Brewed Ginger Beer Syrup has 50% less sugar than other full sugar ginger beer drinks in the market. Something we can be proud of!

Barker’s Brewed Ginger Beer Syrup is now available exclusively at Barkers.co.nz and at our Geraldine and Ponsonby Foodstore & Eateries, all thanks to your enthusiastic emails, passionate phone calls and a frenzy of Facebook messages. While it’s exclusive to Barker’s for now, we hope to have it back on supermarket shelves too.
