Let the Bottle Breathe: Why Our Squeezy Bottles Look ‘Sucked In’

We’re proud of our iconic glass bottles and jars. However, consumer demand for more functional and convenient packaging options is growing, driven by how people use our products in their everyday lives. At Barker’s, we pride ourselves on bringing new and exciting products in formats that best suit our consumers' needs, while staying true to our brand values of quality, flavour, and uniqueness.

So, over the last year, we’ve launched Fruit Preserves, Relishes and Tomato & BBQ Sauces in Squeezy PET bottles. You may have noticed some of our bottles look… a little 'pre-squeezed' on the shelf. Don’t worry, we know. The products are as tasty as always and the bottles will pop back into shape once opened.

The ‘suck in’ occurs during production due to our commitment to being preservative-free across our products. To kill off any micro bacteria, we need to heat the product to a target temperature before going into the bottles. Once the bottle is sealed, the product cools which can create a vacuum and the bottles squeeze in.

When you remove the tamper-proof seal, the air will be released, and the bottle will go back to its original shape, ready to squeeze on whatever you please.

When you’re done, store it in the fridge to keep it fresh until next time. You can find our Squeezy range in all shapes at your local supermarket.
